Dolphins are known for being some of the smartest creatures on Earth, as their communication skills is far more advanced than most animals. Now, a video is going viral that shows just how smart dolphins really are in a touching way.

One night in January, Keller Laros went diving in Garden Eel Cove in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. He was hoping to catch some glimpses of what the wildlife is like deep beneath the sea, but he had no idea that he was about to become a hero!

As Keller was swimming around, he was suddenly approached by a bottlenose dolphin who had become tangled in a fishing line with a hook stuck to his body. The dolphin desperately needed help, and the creature knew immediately that approaching Keller was the best course of action for him.

Luckily for the dolphin, Keller was more than prepared to assist him, and the powerful moment was thankfully caught on camera by another diver named Martina Wing. Video of Keller helping the dolphin has quickly gone viral, being viewed over 21 million times and touching the hearts of people all over the world.

“Fantastic, the dolphin stayed right beside him to do the work, amazing!” one social media user commented. “We don’t give animals enough credit for their intelligence, we forget that we are animals too, just with a little more knowledge, but certainly not better for it!”

“The sea mammals know who to go to for help,” another user commented. “The human/dolphin bond is well established by many experiences of surf board riders, snorkelers and scuba divers. Those who have been the prey of large sharks tell many stories of how dolphins saved them; ramming sharks w their nose, swimming around the person frustrating sharks efforts to reach them and even making a protective circle around the person until they reached the safety of land. Evolution??? I don’t think so.”
