Going to the hospital can be a scary experience, especially for children. Though we know that doctors and nurses are there to take care of us, the prospect of having to undergo a painful procedure of some sort is terrifying.

Evie Hurst is an 8 year-old girl who had severe PTSD when it came to hospitals because of previous experiences that she had. Evie knew that she needed to get a brain scan to help doctors treat her seizures, so though she did not want to be there, she found herself at the hospital once again. As she lay in her hospital bed and was on the verge of panicking, Evie decided use her love of singing to calm herself down.

Evie was born without eyes and suffers from a condition called Anophthalmia, which makes it even more difficult for her to calm down since she does not know what’s going on around her. Evie was adopted from China when she was 4 years-old by her parents Katie and Craig, who brought her to their home in Michigan. At the time, Evie was severely underweight, weighing just 11 pounds, but she quickly gained weight after her adoption.

Evie frequently gets panic attacks, but she calms down whenever Katie sings to her. Her parents soon found that Evie herself had a talent for singing, and they got her a music therapist to play guitar by her side in order to calm her.

Evie was uncomfortable at first when she had to come to the hospital to get this scan, and when she was there, her therapist suggested that she sing to calm herself down. It didn’t take long for Evie to find comfort in the songs that she loves.

As soon as she started to sing Alessia Cara’s “Scars To Your Beautiful,” Evie immediately calmed down. It’s great to see the amount of peace that music brings this brave little girl!

Evie’s talent and determination can serve as an inspiration to all of us. Check out her beautiful singing in the video below.
