Avett Ray Maness is a blind 6 year-old boy from Dayton, Ohio who many are calling the next Stevie Wonder after he taught himself how to play the piano.

Averett Ray was born with optic nerve fibroplasia, which left him completely blind in one eye and with very little vision in the other. He walks with a cane and reads braille, but he has never let his visual impairment hold him back from playing piano, as he began teaching himself how to play when he was just 11 months-old.

“The moment he could pull himself to reach the piano, he was playing the melody to ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star,'” said Averett Ray’s mother, Sara Moore. “That was when he was just 11 months old. Avett Ray has since gotten a piano teacher, who helps him learn new techniques and classical tunes.”

Averett Ray has become a YouTube sensation ever since his mother, Sara Moore, started uploading videos of his performances. The little boy has been called a piano prodigy by the thousands of fans who watch his performances.

The little boy loves playing and singing songs by his two favorite bands, Queen and The Turtles. Sara has said that she hopes that her son’s performances will help raise awareness for the visually impaired and encourage more resources to be put in place for them.

“Music is in his body,” Sara explained. “He’s really practicing on performing now. Since his talent is so amazing, people are asking him to perform.”
