Fans of the 1960s sitcom “The Munsters” are in mourning this week after Beverley Owen, who played Marilyn Munster in the show’s first 13 episodes, passed away. She was 81 years-old.

The news was announced by her costar Butch Patrick, who played Eddie Munster on the beloved show.

“Beautiful Beverly Owen has left us,” he wrote on Facebook. “What a sweet soul. I had the biggest crush on her. RIP Bev and thanks for your 13 memorable Marilyn Munster episodes.”

Owen’s daughter explained that the actress died a week ago at her home in Vermont following a battle with ovarian cancer. Though she had been diagnosed with cancer in 2017, she decided to keep it private and not let fans know.

Owen left her role on “The Munsters” to marry writer and producer Joe Stone, who she remained married to for seven years. She was replaced on the series by Pat Priest, who played Marilyn in 57 episodes. Owen never returned to show business, even after her divorce, and she lived the rest of her life out of the public eye.

Social media has been flooded with tributes for Owen from fans who will dearly miss her.

“Rest in Peace, Beverley Owen. She was my favorite Marilyn. She gave up a successful TV career for love. Very admirable,” one social media user commented, with another adding, “RIP Beverley Owen. Thank you for the laughs and being a true Munster on the inside.”

Owen is survived by her two daughters, Polly and Kate. May you rest in peace, Beverley Owen!
