Steven Tyler is best known for being the lead singer of the rock band Aerosmith, but he just made headlines for a very different reason when he donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to help abused and traumatized girls in Tennessee.

Earlier this week, Tyler attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Janie’s House, which is a newly-renovated shelter for abused and neglected girls outside of Memphis. The shelter was opened on the Youth Villages Bartlett campus thanks to a $500,000 donation from Tyler.

“This does my heart and my soul good,” Tyler said at the ceremony. “This is real.”

The shelter offers treatment and accommodations for up to 14 girls who have experienced trauma in the past. It was fittingly named after Aerosmith’s hit 1989 song “Janie’s Got a Gun” about a girl who was abused by her family.

This is the second Janie’s House that Tyler has opened, as he opened the first one in 2017. He is hoping to open more facilities like this one through his philanthropic foundation Janie’s Fund, which was created in partnership with the Youth Villages nonprofit in 2015.

This comes two months after Tyler donated $532,000 to support American foster children after they have aged out of the foster care system. The singer has raised around $4 million in total funding for abused women and children.

“I’m gonna bring this Janie’s Fund with me wherever I go,” Tyler said. “It’s like a dream come true.”

It’s so nice to see a rock and roll star using his celebrity to give back and help people in need! God bless you, Steven Tyler!
