It’s a well known fact that Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth did not exactly get along. That’s why it came as something of a surprise when royal expert Ingrid Seward just revealed that Diana would go to the Queen for emotional secret meetings about her troubled marriage to Prince Charles.

Diana was only 20 when she married Charles, and she would get overwhelmed at times over being in the royal family. Seward said that Diana would often break down in tears during her meetings with the Queen. As she cried, Diana would reportedly tell the Queen, “everybody hates me, I hate my sister, I hate my mother, I hate my husband.”

Seward explained that the Queen had trouble handling this, as she was “not used to this type of moral confrontation” and simply did not know how to “handle Diana.” That being said, the Queen did not blame Diana for the failure of the marriage, as she blamed Charles instead.

Diana ended up divorcing Charles in 1996, one year before her untimely death in a car crash at the age of 36. She is still missed by millions of royal fans to this day.
