Pentatonix is an a cappella group that has taken the world by storm ever since they won NBC’s “The Sing-Off” back in 2011. The group has scored numerous hits since then, and this week, they have gone viral once again after releasing their rendition of the Simon & Garfunkel song “Sound Of Silence.”

Though many singers have covered this song, nobody has ever done it quite like this. Using only their voices, Pentatonix turn this song into a haunting melody the likes of which you have never heard before.

The group consist of Mitch Grassi, Kirstin Maldonado, Kevin Olusola, Scott Hoying, and Matt Sallee, who replaced Avi Kaplan after he left the group two years ago. This group has the uncanny ability to combine beatboxing, riffing, percussion, and basslines while also maintaining their beautiful voices.

Scott lures viewers in right away when he uses his deep baritone voice to say “Hello darkness my old friend,” and the song only gets better from there! Mitch’s tenor voice adds an uplifting vibe to the song that is desperately needed, and though Matt is the newest member of the group, he more than holds his own.

Kirstin’s mezzo-soprano tones sound angelic and perfectly balance out the more masculine voices of her male counterparts.

The music video accompanying the song has gone mega-viral, being viewed over four million times in less than a week!

“Everyone sounds great, but Scott’s growl in the opening verse REALLY catches your attention! And then the rest coming in…magnificent performance!” one social media user commented, with another adding, “Pentatonix has matured so much… I’m so in live with you guys. Thank you for being apart of my life.”

“I didn’t know I needed you guys to cover this song,” a third user wrote. “But it was pretty much exactly what I needed to hear with where my mind is. So I thank you.”
