When Adam was born, his parents abandoned him right away, telling doctors that they would poison the boy if they were forced to take him home. The boy was born with a rare genetic disorder known as Bartsocas-Papas syndrome, which left him with no eyelids, no nose, and no hands. On top of that, his legs were fused together, and his parents had no interest in keeping him.

Raja and Jessica Paulraj are a married couple who happen to be the doctor and nurse who were there when Adam was born. The two were horrified by what his parents did, and they made the incredible decision to adopt the baby boy themselves.

Raja and Jessica immediately took Adam to a specialist, and he underwent several surgeries. Unfortunately, Adam’s medical bills quickly skyrocketed, and the couple had no idea how they would pay them. That’s when their community stepped in and did something huge, raising $100,000 for Adam’s medical treatments!

Thanks to the generosity of strangers and the surgeries Adam has gotten, he is now able to close his mouth for the first time.

“Is he going to be perfect? Yes, he’s already perfect. Is he going to be normal by the world’s standards? Never,” said John van Aalst, Adam’s doctor.
