Everyone has jitters before their first day of work, but these nerves typically end up being over nothing, as everything usually goes alright. For one California man, however, his first day of work went embarrassingly viral over an innocent mistake.

Back in October, Jon Caña had his first day of work at a digital marketing agency in San Francisco, and he took to Twitter to show off the surprise he got when he walked in to find a bouquet of flowers on his desk.

“I just assumed they were kind of part of this whole first day experience. I was like, ‘Wow, this day just keeps getting better and better,'” he later recalled.

No card was attached, but Jon assumed they were his since they were sitting on his desk, so he accepted them without questioning. It wasn’t until months later that Jon’s manager confessed during a holiday party that the flowers were really meant for someone else.

“I FOUND OUT THESE FLOWERS WERE MISPLACED ON MY DESK AND SUPPOSED TO BE FOR SOMEONE GOING ON MATERNITY LEAVE BECAUSE THEY DONT GIVE FLOWERS TO NEW HIRES BUT THEY SAW ME TAKING PICS WITH THEM AND FELT TOO BAD TO TAKE THEM AWAY IM CAAAACKLING,” Jon tweeted earlier this month.

“The flowers were actually misplaced on my desk and they were meant for someone else,” Jon said. “But they had seen me go around the office having this mini photo shoot and they just felt too bad to say anything.”

Jon’s story has since gone viral, with social media users everywhere getting a huge kick out of it.

“This will be your legacy in the company now… you will have to buy a bouquet for every new hire,” one user commented, with another adding, “Haha, awww no wonder they didn’t have the heart to tell you… you look so pleased with the flowers proudly posing with them.”

As for Jon, he’s taking the whole thing in stride. This sense of humor will serve him well in life!
