Luke Bryan is a country music star who recently underwent a great personal tragedy when his 7 month-old niece passed away from a congenital heart defect. Afterwards, Luke and his wife Caroline created an animal shelter called Brett’s Barn to honor her memory.
The charity started with just one pony, but it has since turned into a whole farm’s worth of animals on the land surrounding Luke’s home in Nashville, Tennessee. Now, it has been revealed that Luke and Caroline applied to adopt an 18-year-old dog named Poochie, who was surrendered by his previous owner after the owner experienced an allergy to him.
Brett’s Barn was created after the death of Luke’s niece, Sadie Brett Boyer.
“After Brett passed away, I decided to keep a promise I made to her when she was about a month old… a white pony!” Caroline wrote on the Brett’s Barn website. “We found the pony at a local animal rescue facility. Along with the white pony, we adopted another pony, goat, and pig.”
The family has adopted many other animals since then, including chickens that like to peck!
Since Poochie was sold old when his owners gave him up, a local animal rescue was going to foster him themselves for him to live out his final years. However, Poochie’s story soon went viral online, and it caught the attention of Luke and Caroline.
Caroline applied to be Poochie’s foster mom, and the photo below shows the moment she picked the dog up after being accepted!
Poochie is now living a blissful life at Brett’s Barn with the Bryans and all of their animals.
God bless Luke and Caroline for taking in this dog!
