Many star athletes end up getting big heads and forget what it was like to be a young fan. Thankfully, Toronto Maple Leafs hockey player Mitchell Marner has never forgotten that he got his start as a young kid who just loved professional hockey.

That’s why when Mitchell saw Maple Leafs fan Mark Beretta tweet a photo of his young daughter on her way to one of his games in Las Vegas, he made a mental note to keep an eye out for her in the stands.

Mark had been taking photos of his family at the arena all day, including images of the signs his daughter was making for the big game.

“Made it to Vegas! Long way for her first game. Mitchell Marner, your biggest fan is looking for you!” Mark tweeted at Mitchell, with his daughter’s sign reading,  “Hey Mitch!!!! Be My Valentine?!”

Mark assumed that Mitchell would never see the tweet, but the player did and was touched by it! During warmups, he spotted Mark’s daughter in the crowd and skated over, tossing a puck over the glass to her.

The little girl would have been more than satisfied with just that gesture, but Mitchell did not stop there! Pointing at the sign, Mitchell asked if she’d like to take a photo with him, and her eyes immediately lit right up!

Mitchell later told reporters that meeting fans like this girl is one of the most rewarding things about playing professional hockey.

“It was great,” he said. “I’ve said it multiple times, playing (for the Leafs) is a blessing. We have a lot of great fans, a lot of great fans who travel with us. Before the game I saw one of her family members tweeted they were there, so as soon as I got on the ice I was looking for (the sign). Pretty cool interaction.”

We applaud Mitchell for going above and beyond to make this young fan’s dream come true!
