Great Britain’s scheduled exit date from the EU is March 29, and as we get closer to that date, plans are being made as to what should happen in the event of a no-deal Brexit. One of the main things officials have been trying to figure out is how to protect the royal family, specifically Queen Elizabeth, in the event of Brexit riots.

It has just been confirmed that “secret plans” to evacuate the Queen and royal officials in the event of riots are currently in the works.

“These emergency evacuation plans have been in existence since the Cold War, but have now been repurposed in the event of civil disorder following a no-deal Brexit,” said a Cabinet Office source.

Years ago, the first version of these plans was called “Operation Candid,” and it involved evacuating the Queen on the royal yacht Britannia. Since the ship was decommissioned in 1997, however, these plans have since been updated. Sources said that should the riots turn violent, the Queen and Prince Philip “would be moved out of London to a secret location” that has not been disclosed.

“It would be irresponsible if we didn’t consider every eventuality in the event of a no-deal Brexit — no matter how unlikely — and of course, that would include the security of the royal family,” a senior Whitehall source said.

At this point, however, officials say that there is no reason to worry.

“The decision to evacuate members of the royal family is based on whether or not their safety is compromised,” a government source said. “But right now we have no concern about their safety.”

We can only hope and pray that there continues to be no reason to fear for the Queen’s safety as we move closer to March 29.
