There’s nothing more annoying than being stuck in a traffic jam for a lengthy period of time. Though many of us have spent some length of time in a traffic jam, few can say they were in deadlocked traffic for 18 hours. However, that’s exactly what happened on an Oregon interstate last week.

On February 12, many drivers on Interstate 84 in Columbia River Gorge found themselves in gridlock traffic for 18 hours. While many drivers could have given into frustration and annoyance, they were able to wait it out with smiles on their faces thanks to the kindness of two Good Samaritans.

Jade and Quinton Stell were stuck in the gridlock for two hours before the couple was able to get out, but when they realized the next morning that their fellow drivers were still stuck on the interstate, they knew they had to go back and help.

The Stells went to the store to stock up on basic supplies like water and bananas, and then they headed back to the interstate to go from car to car handing out the supplies with the help of their two dogs.

Truck driver Dennis Miller was so touched by what the Stells were doing that he shared photos of their good deed to social media.

“So as I sit in line for going on 18 and 1/2 hours, I see this young women handing out Granola bars, bananas and water,” Dennis wrote. “It made my wait better and mine and the State Trooper’s day. Be kind everyone, it’s the right thing to do.”

Local businesses like Dominos and Walmart stepped up as well, delivering pizza and boxes of water to drivers.

It’s amazing how crises like this can bring out the best in people!

“It was an experience that seemed so simple and such like a nothing on our part, but it was so rewarding to be able to love on people in that way,” Jade said afterwards.
