Gary Sinise is a Hollywood star who is best known for playing Lt. Dan in the 1994 movie Forrest Gump. What many people don’t know about Sinise is that he also devotes much of his time to helping veterans through his charity The Gary Sinise Foundation.

This past week, Sinise was brought to tears when his fellow Hollywood stars paid tribute to the work he does with veterans in a beautiful video.

Sinise has said before that his character of Lt. Dan has helped him form a connection with veterans.

“He’s kind of played a bigger role in my life because of the nature of what that character was,” Sinise said. “He was a wounded, injured soldier, and I remember going into the first hospital to visit an injured soldier after Sept. 11, and all he wanted to talk about was Lieutenant Dan and what happened to Lieutenant Dan. So, that character has obviously been very special to me.”

Earlier this week, Sinise was left “completely shocked and speechless” when he saw the video in which stars including Tom Hanks, Ron Howard, Jay Leno and Kristin Chenoweth honored him for all the charity work he does with veterans. Former Secretary of State General Colin Powell even took part in the video, thanking Sinise “for all the things you have done for our men and women who have served our nation. Not only what you’ve done for them but for their children, what you’ve done for their families, what you’ve done to help them rebuild their lives.”

Veterans who have been helped by Sinise also took part in the video.

“As you can see we’re in front of this beautiful house right now,” the veteran said. “We wouldn’t have had it were it not for your kindness, graciousness and your wonderful gift of giving.”

It’s so nice to see Sinise get the accolades that he truly deserves. Check out the video below!
