Millions of Americans struggle with infertility, which is something that is incredibly difficult to go through. To desperately want a child and not be able to conceive one is heart-wrenching, and that’s sadly the situation that the couple in the video below found themselves in. Thankfully, their story ended up having a happy ending that is melting hearts everywhere!

Michael and Karen Faherty are a firefighter and a nurse who fell in love when they were both in the Reserve Officer Training Corps while at the University of Scranton. The two eventually got married, and they started trying to have a child soon thereafter. Unfortunately, over the next four years, they struggled with infertility and were not able to conceive.

After settling in Baltimore, Maryland, the couple decided to contact Adoption Makes Family. The process of adopting a child had already taken a year that was full of home inspections and interviews, so when Michael saw a group of people approaching the house one day, he was not expecting anything huge to happen.

The couple had already been through so much that they did not want to get their hopes up.

“We had convinced ourselves almost a little too well which is partially why we were so shocked when we opened the door and saw the fire truck and the ambulance and 30 firefighters,” Karen said.

As members of the community sang “Little Red Wagon,” Adoption Makes Family founder Dean Kirschner came forward to present the Fahertys with their new baby boy!

Knowing that Michael was a firefighter, Dean brought in the local fire department to help with the big reveal, and they were only too happy to do so! The couple named the baby Michael Terrance Faherty III, and their community also pitched in to give them supplies like diapers and toys on this day.
