It’s always heartwarming to see a friendship form between two different species. Perhaps that’s why a video showcasing the friendship between a dog and an elephant is going viral.

While dogs are known for the love and loyalty they show to humans, elephants are known for being fiercely loyal and emotionally intelligent creatures. That’s why it really is not so surprising that this dog and elephant became best friends.

This video was shot at The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee, where elderly female elephants go to live out the final years of their lives in peace. There are currently ten elephants living at the sanctuary, one of whom is a 35 year-old named Tara, who has become best friends with a dog named Bella!

Tara and Bella are virtually inseparable and do everything together, so the elephant was devastated when her dog companion injured her back recently and had to spend three weeks in a treatment center.

Tara could not bear to abandon her friend, so for the entire three weeks, she stood dutifully outside the treatment center. She refused to roam around the 1,800 acre property until her dog friend could come out and play with her again!

When it finally came time to reunite after all this time, the pair’s reactions were priceless! They are both really lucky to have such a good friend in one another and their reactions are definitely proof of that.
