Kirk was two years-old when he was adopted from an orphanage in Vietnam, and for his entire life, he believed that his parents died in the Vietnam War. It wasn’t until he was 48 that he learned the truth about what happened to his family.

Kirk was stunned decades later when he learned that his birth mother was still alive. Thuy-Nga Thi Nibblett was 17 years-old when she got pregnant with him in the middle of the Vietnam War. Her father was furious about the pregnancy since she was not married at the time, and it was him that forced her to give Kirk up after he was born.

Kirk’s birth father was an American military serviceman who never knew about his pregnancy, as he had already been transferred to a different facility. Thuy-Nga spent nearly fifty years hoping and praying that she would one day be reunited with Kirk. Finally, in 2015, she signed up for a DNA website in the hopes that he would do the same thing.

Meanwhile Kirk, who was now in his forties and was married with children, had been convinced by his wife to sign up for the DNA site as well. Just a few days after he signed up, Kirk got an email from a woman who told him to call her immediately. When he heard what she had to say, Kirk’s heart dropped, as he could not believe that he was speaking to his biological mother!
