When a group of construction workers were brought in to demolish a high school in Indiana, they had no idea that they were about to find something amazing.

As workers went about tearing down the school, they found a purse that belonged to a student way back in 1954. The purse was full of goodies from a bygone era that are giving everyone insight on what life was like back then.

The purse belonged to Martha “Marty” Ingham, and the Greater Clark County Schools took to Facebook in the hopes of tracking her down so that they could give it back to her.

“Lost and Found Alert: Martha Ina Ingham’s handbag from 1954 has been found in the Franklin Square demolition,” the school wrote. “We would love to return it to her or her family!”

The black clutch purse had various handwritten letters inside it as well as a tube of red lipstick, a basketball schedule, and even a note from a boy asking Marty to the prom!

The lipstick may be 65 years-old, but it is still just as red as ever!

One of the letters is from a boy named Carter, who seems to have been quite a player.

“Dear Marty, Bobbie and I aren’t going back together, I’m just continuing to walk her to classes,” the letter reads. “She asked me if I would and I told her that I would. But I am just trying to be friends with everybody. And I decided to start on the girls that I have done wrong. Is there anything wrong with that? I am just going to date everybody and be friends with everybody. I figure that’s the least I can do.”

Another letter comes from a boy named Jordy, who asked her to prom.

“Dear Marty, I’ve heard that Paul has asked you to go to the prom with him – if he hasn’t, I would like very much to take you. P.S. If you have already consented to go with Paul please forget that I have asked. If he has asked but you haven’t consented yet please consider my invitation.”

Thankfully, the purse has since been reunited with Marty, who is now in her 80s.

“I hope this little piece of history brings back fond memories of her year at Jeffersonville High School,” a school official said. “I also hope to answer the community’s burning question about who took Marty to prom.”

In the end, Marty revealed that it was Carter who took her to prom! Find out more about this in the video below.
