Daniel Breyts and Jess Novac are a couple from Indianapolis, Indiana who are the parents of a little boy who has been dubbed a miracle baby.

Last year, the couple welcomed a baby boy named Rowan three months prematurely, and he had serious health problems right from the start. Rowan weighed just over one pound when he was born, and doctors told Daniel and Jess that there was less than a 1 percent chance that he would survive.

“It was a really hard balance between — I wanted him to survive, but I was a realistic person. They told me he was going to die. I didn’t want him to be in any pain and drag it out at that point,” Jess said.

Rowan’s main issue was that he suffered from necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), a disease which attacks the intestines. He spent the first few months of his life at the Riley Hospital for Children, where Daniel and Jess were able to find doctors who actually believed that Rowan could be saved.

“She told me they saw a lot of pink viable intestine, which was the exact opposite of what we had been told,” Daniel said of one of the doctors who believed in Rowan.

For the next few months, the couple prayed as they stayed by Rowan’s side every day hoping that he would pull through. After spending 209 days in Riley Hospital’s NICU, Rowan beat the odds when he was declared strong enough to go home with his parents. Since then, Rowan has continued to grow, and he is now a normal healthy baby boy!

It can’t be denied that this little guy is a big fighter. Find out more about his story in the video below!
