There’s nothing like the love and loyalty that dogs show to their human owners. When dogs are separated from their human owners for a lengthy period of time, they often have a very difficult time with it, as they can’t figure out why their owner is gone.

This is the situation that Jaxon, an 18-month old Bullmastiff puppy who weighs 160 pounds, found himself in when his soldier owner Jason Floyd left home for three months for basic training.

There are lots of videos online of giddy dogs jumping on their dogs when they’re reunited, but Jason found himself receiving a whole different level of love when he walked in the door and saw Jaxon.

Jason’s mom Lisa of Greenville, Rhode Island said that she could not wait to surprise Jaxon by having Jason walk in the door.

“I definitely wanted to do a big deal when he came home and I never expected him to react the way that he did … All day long I’d be like, ‘You’ve got a surprise coming today!’” she said.

The video opens with Jaxon looking a bit groggy, as if he had just gotten up from a nap.

“Jax, are you ready for your surprise? Ready for your surprise?” Lisa asks the dog. “Well, let’s go see it!”

Lisa walks behind Jaxon recording so that she can capture his reaction, and as soon as the dog gets on the front porch, he smells a familiar scent. Not wasting any time, Jaxon bolts right for Jason and tackles him, throwing the soldier backwards onto a lounge chair.

“It was very heartwarming and loving,” Lisa said of their reunion. “I was grateful to be able to capture that so we can always have that, you know, that moment.”
