Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip have been married for 71 years, tying the knot on November 20, 1947 at Westminster Abbey. Millions tuned in to watch their wedding from all over the world, as it was the first royal wedding to ever be televised!

Like in any marriage, Elizabeth and Philip’s has had its ups and downs over the decades, as they have gotten through storms, scandals, and personal tragedies together. Now, with Philip being 97 and Elizabeth being 92, royal sources are saying that the couple has become aware that they do not have much more time together.

“They will be stiff upper lip in public and keep their own emotions behind it,” a former staffer said. “They are both deeply religious people, and it won’t take them by surprise.”

In recent years, the couple has slowed down a bit. Philip has retired from public duties altogether, while the Queen has been handing over some of her duties to her son Prince Charles as well as her grandsons, Prince William and Prince Harry.

Royal historian Robert Lacey described William and Elizabeth as “resilient characters.”

“Their life together has always been built on regular separations,” said Lacey. “They are not a soppy couple.”

They may not be soppy, but there is no doubt that the two love each other dearly. The Queen has often described Philip as her “rock,” and its clear that he feels the same way about her. While we have no doubt that both the Queen and Philip are strong enough to live without each other, we hope that they will not have to for quite some time. We should all be so lucky to have a marriage as strong as the two, and we hope they have many years together to come!
