Winter is in full swing with bitter temperatures and snowing in many parts of the world. Sadly, many creatures find themselves ill-equipped to deal with snowy weather, and the animal in the video below is an example of this.

Earlier this month, workers with the Austrian Federal Railways were clearing train tracks in Gesaeuse national park in central Austria when they noticed a small creature buried in the snow. The workers immediately stopped what they were doing and rushed over to help the chamois, which is a type of goat-antelope.

Two of the workers jumped off of the train with their shovels and went about trying to dig the chamois out. The Austrian Railway OEBB explained that the animal had refused to move away from the side of the tracks when the train approached, so he was left covered in snow.

Thanks to the fact that the workers would not give up, the chamois was eventually freed from the snow! They eventually got enough snow off the chamois that he was able to pull himself up and run back into the forest.

Video of the rescue has quickly gone viral, with people all over the globe praising the workers for taking the time to help the animal.

“A heroic act!” one social media user commented. “Normally, little to no thought is given to how difficult animals are at snow depths. Not every animal will probably be gifted with so much luck.”

“Great commitment and such a happy ending,” another added. “Thank you to the rescuers.”
