Young people all over the world love heading out to nightclubs to be with their fellow peers and dance the night away. Now, senior citizens can get in on the action as well!

Posh Nightclub is a club that is open to only people over the age of 60. There, you’ll see senior citizens dressed in flapper dresses, capes and top hats dancing the night away without a care in the world to 1950s Rockabilly music.

The cabaret party takes place in Crawley, England, and it was started by brother and sister team Simon Casson and Annie Bowden, who created it after seeing that their mother was getting old and lonely. They first set up a lively tea party with a few of her friends, complete with server, 50s tunes and all the tea and snacks they could take. The party was such a success that Simon and Annie decided to host another get together in a church hall, and this time they invited more people.

“That went so well that the Posh Nightclub was born,” they said.

Posh is different from most nightclubs in that it is open in the afternoon. Each party starts with tea served by around 20 volunteers, then moves onto a flapper dance performance while champagne is poured. Things get even rowdier once this happens!

An Elvis impersonator also regularly performs at the parties.

“When I first started performing here, I thought [retired people], relaxed gig, no problem. I could not have been more wrong.” said the fake Elvis. ” This is the only place I’ve ever had underwear thrown at me. They were big grannie panties.”

“What we’re really doing is an anti-loneliness campaign presented as a club event,” said Dicky Eaton, who helps run the club. “A lot of our guests maybe don’t get out much as they once did and don’t see friends as often. Well, this provides a unique way to do both, while also being a part of something that’s vibrant and exciting. Just because you reach a certain age, doesn’t mean you don’t want to have fun anymore. I think society has a habit of forgetting that.”

This is such a great idea! We hope more clubs like this one pop up around the world!
