Travis Trent had just welcomed his new baby into the world when his car suddenly caught on fire in the hospital’s parking garage. While many would have left their car to burn in the hospital’s garage, Travis wasn’t about to let his burning vehicle risk the lives of others.

Travis’ car was in the parking garage of Good Samaritan Hospital in Tacoma, Washington when his dashboard started to smoke. Travis’ first thought were for the structure of the hospital, the patients inside the building, and for the other cars in the garage.

“And so I said ‘this ain’t happening here’ and pulled out and [got] to the top and made sure I got my girlfriend’s makeup and car seat out of the car,” the new father said.

Travis’ car was totally destroyed by the fire, but no damage was caused to the hospital or any other vehicles. While firefighters typically warn drivers to immediately exit a burning car, they’re applauding Travis for the integrity he displayed.

“The fact that he did it and didn’t get injured and saved potentially thousands and thousands of dollars in damage to the parking structure, not to mention the cars he was next to, is pretty incredible,” said Captain Darrin Shaw of Central Pierce Fire and Rescue.

After hearing about Travis’ story, the manager of a local car dealership offered to replace his former car with the very same BMW 528 model for free! Travis, his girlfriend, and their newborn baby Kennedy were stunned when they were surprised by the new car this week.

“It means a lot that people care,” Travis said through tears when he saw the car.
