Kailey is a 3-year-old shepherd mix who spent the first few years of her life being completely neglected. DeKalb County Animal Services placed her on their adoption list, but nobody wanted her, so she was scheduled to be euthanized.

Finally, a foster family stepped up to save Kailey just in the nick of time. Jacqueline Berlin, her foster mother, stated that Kailey had been abused so much in the past that she would snap at strangers who tried to touch her, which made it difficult for her to find a family to adopt her.

Jacqueline took to social media to see if she could find someone in the Georgia area who would be willing to adopt Kailey. Suzy Chandler saw her post and agreed to meet Kailey, and she immediately fell in love with her, adopting the dog that very day!

Kailey was able to quickly adjust to living with Suzy, and all was going well until her new owner noticed her acting strangely one morning. Kailey started frantically barking out of the blue, clearly wanting to get Suzy’s attention, but she could not figure out what her dog wanted.

Suzy decided to take Kailey outside to see if that’s what she wanted, but as soon as they left her home, the dog yanked her in a specific direction. It was only then that Suzy noticed a strange smell accompanied by odd sounds, and she immediately called the police.

It turns out that a fire had broken out at a nearby apartment building that was full of children. Thanks to Kailey, firefighters were able to rescue all of the kids! It’s amazing that a dog who was so unwanted that she was nearly euthanized went on to become a hero saving numerous children!
