Most grocery stores have a hot food counter that gives people the chance to pick up prepared food like soups, roasted chickens, salads, pizzas, and the like. Shoppers assume that this hot food counter is hygienic. After all, a grocery store is expected to uphold a standard of cleanliness. However, the grab and go salad bars and prepared food counters aren’t constantly monitored by employees. As a result, a disturbing incident like this one in the video have caused concern.

A horrifying video from a Chicago supermarket shows a man using a soup ladle at one of these counters to take a sip of the meal. The video is leaving everyone who watches sickened, as the man seems to be oblivious to the fact that other people will unknowingly use the same contaminated ladle.

Social media users everywhere have slammed the man for his behavior, calling it “gross” and “nasty.”

“We tell new hires to never eat anything from the hot bar, olive bar, or soup station because this is incredibly common,” one social media user commented. “The amount of people who think nothing of plunging their hands into a buffet and rationalizing it as ‘sampling’ is astounding.”

“This is why we changed from open salad/olive bars to having it all be served by staff from a serve-over many years ago,” another person added.

It never ceases to amaze us what some people will do in public when they think nobody is looking. Frankly, this man should be ashamed of himself for doing something that makes it clear that he thinks of nobody else but himself!
