Simon Cowell is known for being one of the most difficult judges to please in the world of reality television talent shows. Getting him to press the Golden Buzzer for you on “America’s Got Talent” is an overwhelming achievement, and usually reserved for someone with an undeniable talent.

Kechi Okwuchi is an incredible young woman who was the sole survivor of a plane crash that killed all 106 of her fellow passengers when she was a teenager. Though the crash left Kechi covered in scars, she has never let this hold her back from achieving her dreams and living life to the fullest.

During the many months she recovered from her injuries, Kechi said that it was music that got her through the tough times. Her mother never left her side and would constantly sing to her to soothe the pain as she lay in her hospital bed.

“The next day and the next day, I remember my mom singing to me,” Kechi said. “I had no idea I’d one day be standing on the stage of “America’s Got Talent” and singing.”

Kechi made it to the finals of season 12 of “America’s Got Talent” back in 2017, and she managed to steal the hearts of the nation and the judges alike. Simon was particularly taken with Kechi and her talent.

“You deserve a place here tonight, not just based upon your story, but based upon your talent,” he said at the time. Kechi later said that “hearing those words from Simon changed my life.”

When Kechi decided to come back to compete in “America’s Got Talent: The Champions,” she chose to sing a powerful rendition of Calum Scott’s “You Are The Reason.”

Her performance gave the judges chills, and by the end of it, they were all on their feet! After all the judges praised her, Simon initially got boos when he said, “I’m going to be honest with you. I didn’t really like it that much.” However, Simon then quickly added, “I actually loved it!”

Simon immediately reached over and hit the Golden Buzzer for Kechi, causing her to look at her mother and burst into tears!

“My one regret was I wasn’t able to give her the Golden Buzzer,” Simon said. “You want to know what a champion is? This is a champion.”

Kechi will now be heading right to the finals to compete against the likes of Susan Boyle. We wish her the best of luck, and we can’t wait to see who wins!
