Anival Angulo is a homeless man from Las Vegas, Nevada who is being hailed as a hero after rescuing two children from a raging apartment fire.

Anival, 36, was walking down a Las Vegas street around lunchtime recently when he turned a corner and saw huge plumes of smoke billowing from an apartment building. As he got closer, he could hear the screams of children who were trapped inside the building, and he knew immediately that he had to do something.

Without hesitating, Anival sprinted towards the burning building, jumping over a locked gate to get inside. He then saw a petrified 3-year-old girl behind a locked security door on the side of the unit, and she could not open the door.

“I knew I had to get them out,” he recounted.

Anival pulled as hard as he could on the security door until it “bent upward” and the deadbolt gave. He picked up the girl and was about to flee when he saw a baby’s leg through the smoke. He immediately ran right into the smoke, picked up a ten month-old infant, and ran out with both children.

Firefighters have praised Anival for his bravery, saying that if it was not for him, the children likely would not have made it out alive.

“It’s obvious if this person hadn’t been there, these children could have been burned or may have been killed in the fire,” said Tim Szymanski, of Las Vegas Fire & Rescue.

Thanks to Anival, no lives were lost in the fire. God really did put this brave homeless man in the right place at the right time!

“Both kids will be okay,” fire officials said. “The man is a TRUE HERO.”
