Winter is in full swing in the United States, which means that millions of Americans are dealing with freezing temperatures.

Car safety is an important issue especially in blizzards or icy conditions. Most likely, everyone knows to have a few safety items in your car during the winter in case of an emergency. Having a first aid kit, blanket, ice scraper, and shovel to have handy in your car is recommended for winter travel.

On the other hand, here’s a list of five items that you should not leave in your vehicle during freezing weather.

Laptops

Laptops can get cold fast, and being left in freezing temperatures can ruin them in no time. The biggest risk to leaving your laptop in the cold is that you can weaken your battery and ruin your LCD screen, but in some cases, you can even end up losing all of your data. In the end, leaving your laptop in your car in the cold is simply not worth the risk.

Cellphones

Cellphones can be impacted by the cold much the way that laptops are. Smartphones are designed to function in temperatures between 32 to 95 degrees, so if you are in an area outside these parameters, keep your cellphone with you at all times.

A Gas Tank That Is Less Than Half Full

Experts say that you should fill your tank frequently in winter months because near-empty tanks can freeze, which can lead to ice in the fuel lines and other issues that can be extremely dangerous.

A Soda

Sodas will freeze in temperatures below 32 degrees. Once this happens, the frozen liquid can exceed its container’s capacity, which then results in an explosion that could cause serious damage or a huge mess to your vehicle.

Medications

Temperatures below 32 degrees can also cause pills and liquid medications to lose their potency, so leaving them in your car in the cold is never a good idea.
