Wagner Lima was a 34 year-old cowboy from Paraguay who was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident in Brazil on New Year’s Day in 2017.  During his life, Wagner was best friends with his horse Sereno, who was left devastated by his death.

Wagner’s brother Wando knew immediately that Sereno needed to be present for his funeral. He wanted the horse to have the chance to grieve alongside all the other people who loved Wagner.

“This horse was everything to him,” Wando said. “It was as if the horse knew what was happening and wanted to say goodbye.”

During the funeral, Wando led a march to Wagner’s final resting place in the city of Cajazeiras, Brazil. Sereno marched in the procession with everyone else, and all the people at the funeral were stunned by the way the horse reacted when he came face to face with Wagner’s casket.

When Sereno got close enough to the casket to smell Wagner’s scent, he had a reaction that has quickly gone viral, touching the hearts of internet users everywhere.

“This horse is such a great friend! This is so heartbreaking!” one social media user commented, with another adding, “That’s amazing how the horse mourned and knew its owner was going to be buried. Just amazing!”

“This is a sad story…my heart goes out to that mans family and to that beautiful horse..so sad,” a third user wrote.

After the funeral, Wando decided to take care of Sereno, and he has been looking after him ever since! Check out the touching video below!
