Brandon Church, the brother of country music star Eric Church, passed away last June at the age of 36. Now, an autopsy revealing his cause of death has been made public, revealing the real cause of his death.

It has just been reported that Brandon died of chronic alcoholism. The autopsy states that Brandon had a clinical history of alcohol withdrawal-induced seizure disorder, which appears in people who have a history of binge drinking and trying to quit that then triggers a seizure.

It had previously been reported that Brandon suffered two seizures on the day of his death in Granite Falls, North Carolina, and that the second one sent him into cardiac arrest. His years of alcohol abuse had also led to a thickening of his heart, coronary artery disease and liver damage.

Brandon had written a few songs with his brother, including “How ‘Bout You” from the country star’s debut record as well as “Without You Here” from Eric’s 2009 album Carolina. Eric had confirmed Brandon’s death over the summer in a statement released by his family.

“It is with great sadness that the Church family confirms that Eric’s brother, Brandon, passed away Friday evening,” the family said in their statement.

The family has since set up a memorial scholarship in Brandon’s name that has raised over $45,000, and they have asked for donations to be sent instead of flowers.
