“America’s Got Talent: The Champions,” which premiered last night on NBC, is a show that has gathered some of the best acts from talent competitions all over the world to compete.

Though they did not advance to the next round, dog and trainer act Sara and Hero stole the show during last night’s premiere. The act first appeared on “America’s Got Talent” season 12, and they were so popular that they made it all the way to the finale!

Sara is a 22 year-old trainer who rescued 5 year-old Border Collie Hero in Ontario, Canada when he was still a puppy. By the time he was just four months, Hero knew 60 tricks and he quickly became the world’s youngest champion trick dog. Five years later, Hero now knows hundreds of tricks, which makes his act with Sara very fun to watch!

Sara is a certified dog trainer who teaches dog classes in agility, puppy foundation, obedience and tricks. During the show, Sara made the heartbreaking admission that she had been living out of her car because her family did not support her dreams of becoming a dog trainer.

“Growing up I was pretty introverted, very shy and didn’t connect with people very well. I loved animals and started falling in love with dog training and I wanted to pursue it as a career,” she said. “Some of my family members didn’t agree with it and I haven’t talked with them in years. It hurt and that’s about the time I got Hero.”

Sara went on to explain that she named her dog Hero because that’s what he is to her.

“His name is Hero because I needed a hero at the time, to be there for me because nobody really was,” she said. “I just want to show those family members that I can be successful at this.”
