Some things in this world are so incredible that they’re hard to explain, and this footage in the video below is one of those things. It features a murmuration of thousands of starling birds taking the shape of a giant bird in the sky.

Supposedly, the birds make the formation to scare off attacking sparrowhawks, but regardless of the reason it is a sight to behold. Guy Benson and his wife were able to capture the footage on Christmas Day.

They were visiting the Attenborough Nature Reserve in Nottingham, a hotspot for these kinds of events. He said he and his wife Anita saw the birds swirling in the sky about dusk and they were taking on different shapes as they flew.

The last formation they made appeared to be a huge bird. He says it was one of the greatest sights in nature that he’s ever seen. He explained that 20 years ago they were much more common.

In years past, it was a common sight to see 40,000 birds in a murmuration. However, these days you’re lucky to see 10,000 to 20,000, unless you are in a hot spot such as Attenborough.

Benson explained that he is a regular bird watcher and he’s seen murmurations formed, but none like this one. He says this one is a miraculous wonder. Check out the rare footage below and be sure to share it with your family and friends.
