It’s becoming increasingly rare that couples are able to stand the test of time and form a marriage that lasts for decades. That’s what makes the love story of Ted and Florence Richardson so amazing!

Ted and Florence were married for 72 years before she sadly passed away, but his devotion to her did not cease after her death.

Ted was 16 when he met Florence, who was 14 at the time, and they were inseparable from the very beginning!

“I was standing in the hall,” Ted recalled. “The classes were changing and I saw a beautiful girl. I went home and told my dad that night I saw the girl I was going to marry.”

The only time that Ted and Florence were apart was when he was shipped out during World War II, and he took a photo of her with him.

“She was beautiful,” he said. “I didn’t mind looking at her all the time.”

The couple got married as soon as Ted returned home.

“I never heard her say a bad word,” Ted said. “For 72 years she lost her temper only once — in 72 years! And it was my fault.”

Florence tragically passed away in 2013. Since then, Ted has visited her grave six days a week, boarding three different buses to travel from his apartment in Waikiki to the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, where she rests in peace.

Ted always gets to her grave at 6:30am, and after chatting with his wife, he tends to her gravesite. He sees it as the least he can do for the wife who took care of him for over seven decades.

“I always tell her when I go up there, ‘Payback time,'” Ted said.

Ted has visited his wife’s grave over 1,300 times, and he has no intention of slowing down.

“I’ll keep going as long as I can go. God will tell me when I’ve had enough,” he said.
