Lions have been known as the king of the jungle for years, and it is understandable why. These majestic creatures have very few natural enemies and are well respected in the animal kingdom. But just like all other creatures, they too have their weaknesses. In this case it came in the form of a cackle of hyenas. This king of the jungle was getting ganged up on.

Sir David Attenborough, from the BBC series Dynasties, explains that young male lions like to wander away from their families and explore their territory as they get older. While this may seem like a good idea to start with, this time, the lion known as Red,  finds himself in quite a predicament. He manages to wander right into the center of hyena territory.

Red quickly realizes that he is outnumbered. While one hyena is no challenge for a male lion, he can’t keep up with all of them at the same time. They could easily over power him once he gets worn out. The hyenas circle Red and wear him out by biting and attacking him. Finally realizing that he was in trouble, he lets out several roars hoping that someone would be nearby to help.

Lucky for Red, someone did hear his cries. His cousin, Tatu, arrives to help him out and together they run off the hyenas. While one male lion may be a target for a group of hyenas, two changes the odds in the favor of the lions.

As the hyenas run away, the two young lions share a touching family reunion where they comfort each other after such a trying ordeal. This goes to show that a family bond can be really important in trying times.
