Part of the joy of Christmas is seeing the wonder in a child’s eyes as they see Santa, crawl up on his lap, and tell him their wish list. The joy continues on Christmas morning when they open their gifts believing that Santa has granted their every wish.

Sadly, the students at one New Jersey school have had their hearts shattered by a careless substitute teacher who informed her first grade class that Santa Claus isn’t real.

Lisa Simek is one of the parents of a child in the class and she is devastated by what happened. She says her daughter Emilia said the teacher told them that the reindeer and his elves aren’t real either and that parents just buy gifts and put them under the tree.

The substitute teacher didn’t stop there either. She also informed them that the tooth fairy isn’t real either and the same goes for the Easter bunny. She also told them there is no such thing as magic.

The principal at Cedar Hill school, Michael Raj, immediately knew that there would be uproar surrounding the incident and immediately reached out to parents to let them know what had happened. He wanted parents to know what had happened in case their children came home wanting to know about Santa Claus. He also offered suggestions for how to maintain their child’s childhood innocence over the holiday season.

The substitute teachers was disciplined for her actions, although the school has declined to comment whether she will be allowed to teach in the future. She had been substituting at the school for two years.

Needless to say, some parents like Simek are very upset about the incident, while others have actually stated they are grateful for the revelation the teacher shared with the students.

One mother said that it isn’t appropriate to lie to your children about these figures and all this substitute teacher did was keep parents from continuing an old lie.

What do you think? If your child were in that class would you be happy or mad? Share this story with your friends and family and see what they have to say.
