Most kids have a Christmas list a mile long. They want toys and game consoles and candy. But for some children, the list is much simpler. They are happy just to have a bed to sleep in and food to eat.

That is the story of a group of seven siblings and their story is breaking hearts every where. Layna, one of the older siblings, is thrilled to have her own bed. Before, they often had to sleep on the floor. They also struggled to get food. She said the neighbors would sometimes bring them food, but in a can. They didn’t have a can opener to open the cans so they would just have to go without.

This year things will be much different for them. They now each have their own bed, toys, food, clothing, and a new family that will love them unconditionally. All seven siblings are now part of the Hawthorne family. “It feels so great knowing we have a family now and won’t have to go anywhere else,” said Dawson, the oldest sibling.

The two boys and five girls were officially adopted by their foster parents, Michael and Terri Hawthorne. But when the two first decided to start fostering children, they agreed that they’d never adopt. Now Michael and Terri encourage other families to open up their homes to children like their own. They explain that these kids didn’t ask to come to foster care and be shipped around to different homes or schools.

They say there is a big need for foster families, and although it isn’t always easy, it is definitely worth it in the end. Check out the video below to learn more about this amazing family and be sure to share it with your family and friends.
