Meat Loaf, whose real name is Michael Lee Aday, has been a singing sensation for decades. Now at the age of 71, the rock star says he is finally calling it quits for good. For years, his impressive vocals have made him one of the best musicians of all time, but due to lingering back issues and surgeries, he now has to depend on a walker to get in and out of bed and move around.

Although the rocker says that he lives a boring life and was never in to drinking and drugs like many who had the same career as him, his health has finally caught up with him. Much of his pain stems from an incident when he was just a child where his alcoholic dad tried to stab him with a butcher knife. He also suffered a pinch nerve in his back in 2015, which surgery failed to offer much relief.

Meat Loaf says that because you use everything to sing and because he’d run around on stage in the past, he doesn’t want to perform anymore because he just can’t do it anymore. He admits that he might be a bit crazy, but it is likely from the 18 concussions that he has suffered in his lifetime. He’s fallen from three stories, been in car accidents, and had emergency landings that should have killed him.

He says he’s a bit like a cat, only with 48 lives. And although he is in a lot of pain, Meat Loaf says he isn’t certain he’s done being on the stage just yet.

Although he hasn’t been singing on stage, he has embarked on another world tour. He takes the stage to tell stories about him and Bat Out of Hell songwriter Jim Steinman. American Idol winner Caleb Johnson has been recruited to perform the songs in Meat Loaf’s place.
