On Thursday, former President George H.W. Bush was laid to rest at a private funeral only attended by his family in Houston, Texas. Days before that, a larger funeral for him took place at the Washington National Cathedral on Wednesday in D.C., and this service was televised so that the millions of Americans wanting to honor the former president could watch.

Though this funeral was full of touching moments, one of the best came when country music singer Reba McEntire stepped up to perform “The Lord’s Prayer.” Reba had been close friends with George, and she wanted to be there for him to give him the send off that he deserved.

Her performance resonated with former president’s oldest son George W. Bush as he was seen wiping away tears as she sang.

After the performance, Reba took to Twitter to reveal how much it meant to her.

“It was an honor and privilege to sing at President George H.W. Bush’s funeral this morning,” she wrote. ” He was a great leader and I will never forget the time we shared together.”

She also took to Instagram to post a touching photo of herself with George at The Country Music Awards years ago.

We applaud Reba for stepping up to honor President George H.W. Bush in such a remarkable way. Please keep the Bush family in your thoughts and prayers, and check out Reba’s performance below.
