Many people feel anxious when it comes time to put on a bathing suit in public, but this is an even more overwhelming for people who are obese.

James King saw how tough this can be during his time working at a resort in Grenada, where he watched a woman look humiliated after she fell through a lounge chair. This inspired him to create The Resort, a secluded vacation destination that is only for plus-sized guests.

The Resort is located on Eleuthera Island in the Bahamas, and it has five miles of private beach for guests to lounge on without having to worry about being mocked or judged. The Resort has an official rule that people must be respectful of all guests there.

“Our goal is to have a special place where you can relax, unwind and spend some quality time just being yourself,” The Resort’s Facebook page states. “We know that when you return home you will not feel like you need a vacation to recover from your vacation.”

Given the experience that led to him creating The Resort, James made the lounge chairs extra strong, saying that “you could literally jump on that furniture and nothing is going to happen.” He made many of the furniture himself to make sure they were as strong a he wanted them to be.

“The response has been phenomenal,” he said.

It’s great that he has created a place where plus-sized people can have a carefree beach vacation! Find out more about this in the video below!
