UPS drivers come across dogs on their routes, and they often create special bonds with them. For a New York UPS driver named Jason Coronado, however, his reaction with an adorable pit bull ended up changing both their lives forever.

Jason was delivering packages on his route when a dog in the Buffalo City Animal Shelter ran up to him. Jason called out to the pitbull-terrier mix, who responded by basically jumping into his truck. The dog, whose name is Ernie, proceeded to happily sit with Jason, making it clear that he did not want to be anywhere else.

A few weeks went by, but Jason could still not forget his interaction with Ernie. After a month, Jason returned to the shelter to ask about Ernie, and he was told that the dog had yet to find a forever home. He had been at the shelter for quite some time, and workers said they were starting to fear that he would never be adopted.

After talking to his family about it, Jason decided to adopt Ernie himself!

“He is very joyful,” Jason said. “I’m upset I didn’t take him home earlier.”

These days, Ernie loves following Jason around the house and enjoys sitting on his lap as well. He also spends a lot of time sleeping, which Jason doesn’t mind at all.

Dogs that are sent to animal shelters often don’t find forever homes, so Ernie is lucky to have found such a loving one! Jason is also lucky to have a loyal dog like Ernie who will always stand by his side. We wish them many years of happiness together to come!
