When Meghan Markle spent Christmas with the royal family last year one month after her engagement to Prince Harry was announced, she was widely criticized for not curtseying to the Queen correctly. On Wednesday, however, Meghan showed the world that she has finally mastered the curtsy when she managed to complete it exactly the way royal protocol describes it!

As a pregnant Meghan greeted Queen Elizabeth outside the St. Mary Magdalene church in Sandringham, she was able to curtsy deeply with her hands clasped together and head bowed as a sign of respect.

Meghan’s mistake last year was that her right foot was not properly planted behind her left leg. This made it so that she was not able to curtsy deep enough while maintaining balance. This year, however, Meghan made sure that her right foot was planted behind her left leg and she bowed deeply out of respect.

“What you should be doing, for a lady, is the right foot behind the left, and then it is a gentle bob,” explained royal butler Grant Harrold. “You keep the hands in because you’re not a penguin.”

Harrold went on to say that Meghan’s sister-in-law Kate Middleton, who curtseyed to the Queen alongside her, managed to pull off the move effortlessly. Though rumors have been swirling that Meghan and Kate have not been getting along, they were all smiles today as they left church together with their respective husbands.

Becoming a member of the British royal family is not easy, as there are tons of rules and protocols that one must memorize. We’re glad to see that Meghan is already starting to get the hang of all of the intricacies of royal life!
