Proposing at Times Square in New York City seemed like it was going to be a dream come true, but for this man, it turned into a nightmare when he dropped his ring down a city grate. However, he ended up getting the fairy tale ending that he was hoping for in a very surprising way!

It all started last Friday, when the man was spotted on a surveillance camera dropping the ring down a utility grate right after he proposed to his fiancee. The couple frantically searched for the ring for a few minutes, but they eventually gave up and walked away.

That’s when the NYPD stepped in.

The next morning, an NYPD Special Ops team rushed to the area and managed to find the ring. They then issued a call on social media in the hopes of tracking the couple down.

“WANTED for dropping his fiancée’s ring in @TimesSquareNYC! She said Yes – but he was so excited that he dropped the ring in a grate. Our @NYPDSpecialops officers rescued it & would like to return it to the happy couple. Help us find them?” they tweeted.

They then added a photo of the ring.

It didn’t take long for the couple to be found, and they were ecstatic to get their ring back! The couple have since been identified as John and Daniela, two people from out of the country who were only visiting the U.S. for a short time, and they are now back home!

“We would like to thank everyone who shared this story!” the NYPD News social channel added. “The (now) happy couple is back in their home country, but thanks to your retweets they heard we were looking for them! We’re making arrangements to get them their ring back.”

What a way to start out their lives together! We’re glad the ring was found, and we wish them the best of luck!
