Veterans are people who have put their lives on the line just to protect the rest of our freedoms. Sadly, they often do not get the respect that they deserve when they return home from serving. That’s what makes stories like this so heartwarming to read!

Last month, hundreds of people turned up to attend the funeral of a veteran of the Vietnam War after hearing that he was going to be buried alone without family.

It was just 25 degrees when Stanley C. Stoltz was buried in Omaha National Cemetery, but a crowd of over 400 strangers braved the weather to attend his funeral. Good Shepherd Funeral Home director Mike Hoy said that after Stanley passed away on November 18, he was told that he had left no family behind, so he placed a simple notice for him in the local newspaper.

This notice was then posted on social media, and it quickly went viral

So many were touched by Stanley’s story that hundreds showed up to give him the respect that he deserved!

“I was very moved,” said Dick Harrington of the Final Salute Society. “The fact that this many people cared about him, maybe three-quarters of them were vets, they just wanted to be here.”

“This is the first time we’ve had this kind of crowd. This whole hill is full,” added Chaplain Roy Edwards. “Most get 6-8 cars, 15 at most. This is hundreds.”

We’re so glad to see that this veteran got a sendoff that was fitting for someone who had made the sacrifices that he did. Rest in peace, Stanley C. Stoltz, and thank you for your service!
