As a healthcare worker at Hospital Regional Alto Vale in Brazil, Cris Mamprim is used to seeing some unusual things at her job. However, recently she was left utterly speechless when she saw something so unusual that she won’t soon forget it.

A homeless man named César walked into the hospital at around 3am to receive treatment for a health problem that he has had for quite some time. César usually goes to another medical facility in town, so Cris began to talk to him and ask about his medical history. It was only then that she realized that he was not alone.

Though he has no personal possessions, César has some close friends who help him get through life, but these friends happen to not be human! As Cris talked to the homeless man, she noticed a group of loyal dogs standing at the entrance to the hospital. The stray dogs were clearly concerned about their friend’s health, as he has been watching over them!

César confessed that he often foregoes eating meals himself so that the dogs can eat.

“They are all well taken care of and chubby,” Chris said. “Seeing them like that, waiting at the door, only shows how much they are cared for and loved.”

The dogs lay on the ground at the entrance of the hospital waiting to make sure their friend got the treatment he needed.

When Cris and her coworkers brought César some food, they noticed he ate only a little bit of it and gave the rest to the dogs.

“Believe me, he ate some and saved a bit to give the dogs later,” Cris said.

When César finally left the hospital, Cris watched as he walked out with his canine friends following behind.

“He has the best companions with him,” she said. “I do not know what his life is like, or why he’s on the street, but I admire the respect and love he has for his little animals […] If only everyone were like this.”

It warms my heart to see how close this man is to his beloved dogs!
