Workers with the India rescue organization Animal Aid Unlimited were out driving one day when they saw a tiny calf laying on the side of the road. The calf was so thin that workers could see each and every one of her ribs, and she was so weak that she could not even move.

The rescue workers knew right away that this calf would die if they did not do something to help her.

The group later took to Facebook to talk about the calf, who they named Merry.

“So small. Discarded. Alone and almost faded away,” they wrote. “Beautiful Merry was rescued after someone dumped her on the road. She must have walked until she was too weary to stand anymore. Or maybe her mother had died and the owner didn’t want to pay for milk.”

The rescuers had no idea how the calf ended up abandoned on the road.

When the workers approached Merry, she was in so much pain that she did not even seem to notice them. The workers carefully got Merry in their truck and brought her to their sanctuary, where she was given IV fluids and milk to help with her severe dehydration.

It was not looking good for Merry, but the veterinarians refused to give up on her. They gave her fluids for four days, and finally on the fifth day, she stood up for the first time! Before long, she was curiously wandering around the barn to check out her surroundings.

“It took her 5 days before she could stand,” Animal Aid Unlimited wrote. “She needed lots of physical contact which was lovingly provided by staff and volunteers. And she blossomed into the beautiful girl she is today.”

Merry has since transformed into a perfectly normal calf. She’s incredibly friendly, and she has made lots of friends!

We’re so happy that Merry is finally getting all the love that she deserves. Find out more about her in the video below!
