A Russian woman was left in “grave condition” this week after a bear ripped off her arm and ate it during a drunken Christmas bash.

The unnamed 53 year-old woman from the Russian city of Achinsk had bragged that she could feed the bear during the party at a guest house. When she reached out her arm to feed him, however, the bear responded by swiftly ripping off her arm and eating it.

The woman lost a massive amount of blood and had to undergo emergency surgery. She remains in intensive care at this time.

The caged bear is meant to be entertainment for visitors at the guest house, where the woman is employed. She had reportedly been drinking at the guest house Christmas party when this incident took place.

“It ended in tragedy for the woman as the bear took its revenge on being held captive – and ate her arm for its festive meal,” said one local resident.

Police had reportedly ordered the guest house owner to free both caged bears on his premises, but he had refused to do so.

“We have often fed those bears ourselves,” said one visitor. “We used a stick provided there to push the treat towards the cage. Sometimes the bears open their mouths just like hippos and you can throw an apple right into it. They are very smart, stretching their paws waiting for treats.”

Police are still investigating what happened, but officials have told the public that the bears will not be killed.

“We will wait until spring and assist in the release of these bears,” said state hunting inspector Vasily Vershkov. “Nobody will kill them.”
