Jen Frantz and Janine Dzyubanny are two women whose lives changed forever after they took a DNA test with the site 23andme.

After Jen took her test, she received a message from Janine that left her stunned.

“And it was something like, ‘I just got my results back. I think you and I might be sisters,'” Jen recalled. “I definitely remember she had ‘OMG’ in there.”

Janine had gotten a notification from 23andme saying that she had a close relative match on her DNA. At first, she was worried that she might scare Jen if she messaged her.

“I didn’t know what to say,” Janine said. “I didn’t want to scare her away. This was 42 years into my life and I find out I have a sister. It’s kind of startling to people.”

Jen grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina while Janine was raised in New Jersey. They were both adopted, and they took the DNA tests to find out more about where they came from.

Both Jen and Janine work as preschool teachers, and miraculously, they now live just thirty minutes away from each other! They even share a few mutual friends!

“We both feel like we’ve missed out on the first 42, 43 years of our lives together,” Jen said. “We’re just trying to spend every waking moment together and just kind of make up for all that time.”

The sisters also have a message for their biological mother, who they would like to find out more about.

“Being a mother myself and having two kids, I can only imagine she thinks of us every day and worries about us,” Jen said. “And we know that she loved us because she left us on a police station steps to be found. So to let her know that A) we’re okay, and B) we found each other.”
