This is one Texas grandmother that I certainly would not want to mess with!

Judy Cochran has revealed that she just killed a 12-foot, 580-pound alligator at her ranch in Goodrich as revenge because she believes the gator ate her miniature horse a few years ago.

“We think this is the gator that ate one of our miniature horses several years ago,” said Cochran, who is mayor of the neighboring town of Livingston. “As big as this gator was, he could’ve easily eaten it.”

As a public official, Cochran wanted to make it clear that she followed the law in hunting down this alligator. Goodrich is in Polk County, which is one of twelve counties in Texas that has an alligator hunting season. This season is limited to September 10-30, so Goodrich only had twenty days to get justice for her miniature horse. The law mandated that she needed to get permits and tags and catch the alligator on a hook before killing it, and she managed to do all of that!

“We don’t just go to the ranch and hunt a gator,” Cochran said.

Cochran was in a meeting when her son-in-law lured the alligator with a seasoned raccoon set over the pond. He then called her to let her know that he had bagged the alligator. The grandmother finished her meeting, grabbed her Winchester .22 Magnum, and went to take care of business! Now, Cochran is looking forward to dining on the alligator meat with her family.

“Don’t mess with Nana,” she concluded.
