Sarah Sartorius was elated when she found out that she would be expecting her second child. Just like all mothers, she began to prepare for her baby’s arrival. Little did she know, her baby would be arriving much earlier than she expected.

Sarah thought she was battling the flu and went to see her doctor. Instead, she found out that she had a staph infection in her uterus. While getting treatment for her own illness, doctors discovered that her baby’s heart rate had dropped dangerously low.

They informed Sarah that in order to give her baby a chance to survive, they needed to perform an emergency c-section immediately. Sarah was terrified, and didn’t know what to expect.

She was just 24 weeks pregnant, and delivering her baby now would mean that her chances of survival would be much less. Finally, she welcomed baby Remi Elisabeth into the world. She weighed just one pound and one ounce.

Because she was so small and born at less than 27 weeks, Remi was considered a micro preemie. She had to have help breathing and needed a tube in her umbilical cord to help her eat.

Luckily though, Remi was a fighter. She continued to thrive and her parents never lost hope. After 153 days in the hospital, Remi finally got to come home to her mom, dad, and big sister.

Although she had a rough start, and she may be delayed reaching some of her milestones, Remi is a very healthy baby. Check out the video below to learn more about this little fighter and be sure to share this tiny miracle with your family and friends.
